چکیده

Introduction Intracranial hemorrhage is common in neonates, especially in preterm neonates. Different types of hemorrhage have been diagnosed in neonates including germinal matrix hemorrhage, intraventricular hemorrhage, intraparenchymal hemorrhage, venous lesions or extra-axial hemorrhage with various etiologies such as asphyxia, premature delivery and assisted vaginal delivery. Susceptibility-weighted imaging (SWI) is a technique that is highly sensitive for the visualization of substances with a magnetic susceptibility different from brain tissue such as blood, iron, calcification and air [1,2]. Despite recent increasing recognition of the clinical utilities of SWI, the role in neonates has not been well established. The purpose of this study was to assess the additional value of SWI for detecting hemorrhage in neonates according to anatomic location.

Usefulness of magnetic resonance imaging with SWI sequence (susceptibility-weighted imaging) in diagnosing cerebral hemosiderosis – case report

BACKGROUND The purpose of this study was to determine whether the SWI sequence may improve the MRI evaluation of hemosiderin deposits in the brain. CASE REPORT We report a case of a 7-year-old girl after a total resection of a large tumor mass (ependymoma G II) located in the left hemisphere. Late complication of surgery was hemosiderosis of the brain diagnosed with SWI sequence. CONCLUSION...

Spontaneous superficial parenchymal and leptomeningeal hemorrhage in term neonates.

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE Intracranial hemorrhage in term neonates often results from asphyxia, obvious birth trauma, blood dyscrasia, or vascular malformation but may occur without an obvious inciting event. In this study, we review the clinical and neuroimaging features of healthy term neonates presenting with spontaneous superficial parenchymal and leptomeningeal (ie, subpial or subarachnoid) h...

Ultrasonographic examination of the normal caprine neonatal brain

Ultrasonography is a safe, rapid, and non-invasive diagnostic tool that has been previously used for imaging infants and canine neonatal brains. The purpose of the present study was to describe the ultrasonographic appearance of the brain in clinically normal caprine neonates. Ultrasonographic examination was done on 12 day-old goat kids, transverse and sagittal transcranial scans were obtained...

The Prevalence and Properties of Intracranial Vascular Abnormalities in CT Angiography of Patients with Non-traumatic Intracranial Hemorrhage

Introduction:Intracranial hemorrhage (ICH) is divided into two traumatic and non-traumatic categories. The present study sought to investigate the anatomical properties of non-traumatic intracranial hemorrhage in Kerman, Iran. Method:A total of 305 non-traumatic ICH cases were chosen in Shafa medical center. Data from patients’ files and CT scan images, including demographic factors and type o...

Susceptibility-weighted imaging and quantitative susceptibility mapping in the brain.

Susceptibility-weighted imaging (SWI) is a magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) technique that enhances image contrast by using the susceptibility differences between tissues. It is created by combining both magnitude and phase in the gradient echo data. SWI is sensitive to both paramagnetic and diamagnetic substances which generate different phase shift in MRI data. SWI images can be displayed as ...
